exotic, colourful wonderplants to brighten up this rainy day!
Berlin illustrator and photographer Sarah Illenberger
turned a recent six-week trip to Porto, Portugal into an extended work
vacation using the tropical inspiration around her to create these
vibrant images in a new series called Wonderplants. Armed with the
basics of stickers and tape from local stationery and hardware stores
Illenberger set to work to transform leaves from local botanical
gardens. The results are beyond tropical, vivid colours contrast with
more muted backgrounds, where beautiful shadows form in contrast to the
foreground. Check out her online store for prints and unusual objects.

klaxon festival
a while ago, we visited klaxon festival at 't Werkhuys.
this stripfest, expo and preformance festival was curated by the talented and ever happy Dimitri 'JangoJim' Sakelaropolus and Bries.
We saw a lot of great comics, books, cards, art and really enjoyed the exhibitions on the first floor, with works of Brecht Vandenbroucke, Marcel Ruijters, Lukas Verstraete, Pieter Fannes, Wobby collectief, Frank Wagemans, Samplerman, Wide Vercnocke and Olivier Schrauwen.

wildflowers heaven
We've (I am sure I can speak for Katty as well in this case) always been fond of wildflowers. As a child, I came home with self-picked flowers whenever I could. When we rent a holiday house somewhere, the first thing I do is screening the neighbourhood for wildflowers. Unfortunately, since we live in the city, there's not much picking to do...
But today, I've discovered and tested the "bloemenplukweide", 10 minutes by car (without traffic jam) and 40 minutes by bycicle (from Antwerp) Just cut the flowers you want, make your own bill (the prices are marked) and leave the money in a letterbox. Open every day from sunrise till sunset. And if you are there, you can visit the bio shop as well. I've bought myself some pure happiness :-)
