wonderplants

exotic, colourful wonderplants to brighten up this rainy day!

Berlin illustrator and photographer Sarah Illenberger turned a recent six-week trip to Porto, Portugal into an extended work vacation using the tropical inspiration around her to create these vibrant images in a new series called Wonderplants. Armed with the basics of stickers and tape from local stationery and hardware stores Illenberger set to work to transform leaves from local botanical gardens. The results are beyond tropical, vivid colours contrast with more muted backgrounds, where beautiful shadows form in contrast to the foreground. Check out her online store for prints and unusual objects.

house of pane

In 2012, photographer Nick Olson and clothing designer Lilah Horwitz quit their day jobs and set off to build a unique woodland cabin so they could watch the sun set over the mountains of West Virginia.

Small but beautifully crafted, the home’s main feature is a wall full of glass, made entirely out of repurposed windows and salvaged materials they had collected from garage sales and antique dealers in the area.

“Each window has a bit of a story to it,” says Olson. “As an artist, I’ve learned over time that if you have an idea, you can find a way to make it.” The painstaking hands-on approach they apply to their artistry is the same technique they used to build their home.

The glass cabin, which they created for a total of about $500 on a property owned by Olson’s family, allows for plenty of natural light, reducing the need for artificial sources. Although it doesn’t have electricity or running water, it has everything the couple needs to watch the breathtaking West Virginia sunsets they so love.

verbeke foundation

Have you ever visited the Verbeke foundation? It was on my bucket list for years and last sunday, we managed to visit it. Inspiring place, this private art site (12 hectare nature). Their presentation is never completed, in movement, a bit messy, complex but never how you expect. If you want, there is even a artplace to stay called 'CasAnus' (a night in a cloaca? why not?)

tree drawings

Tim Knowles (UK) attached some drawing implements to the tips of tree branches. The wind moves the branches and the pen's draw on paper. Simple, yet clever.

mushroom spotting

...it's autumn allright!
so many mushrooms around the horses meadow and NO idea whatsoever which ones are edible...anyone any good tips?

(suspect the first, fluorish yellow one could possibly be a tiny bit poisonous :-)
